Sparrowhawk
"<" back one image Sparrowhawk
The Sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) specialises in hunting woodland birds, but also hunts garden birds in towns and cities. Its main habitat is woodland and open country. It has been used in falconry since the 16th century and is known for its courage, although it can be a difficult bird to train. The Sparrowhawk hunts using surprise attack, hiding and waiting for smaller birds, then breaks cover and flies out fast and low. A chase will often ensue, with the Sparrowhawk sometimes flipping upside down and grabbing its prey from underneath. It even follows on foot through vegetation and dives from a great height. forward one image ">"
